A specialty chemical plant was modernizing the control room of a DeltaV system originally commissioned in the early 2000s. The existing 100 Mbps switches between the controllers and operator stations had become a bottleneck during batch download and trend retrieval, and one of the units had developed intermittent port faults that briefly dropped an operator station during a critical reaction step. The project team needed a direct replacement that would preserve the cabinet footprint, power cord, and fiber infrastructure while raising the backbone to gigabit. They selected the VE6022P1​ because it is listed in the Emerson DeltaV switch family as a 12-slot gigabit unit and accepts the same SFP-based copper and fiber mix already used in the plant. By populating a mix of VE6024 single-mode SFPs for the long runs to the field enclosures and VE6025 RJ45 SFPs for the short equipment-room links, the team rebuilt the network without replacing any fiber or rewiring the control room — and batch download times stopped being a constraint on change management.

In a second case, a refinery’s DeltaV area control network was being expanded to add a new application station and historian server. The original switch had no free ports, and the superintendent was unwilling to introduce a non-DeltaV commercial switch into a classified network. A second VE6022P1​ was added as an aggregation node, carrying the redundant DeltaV topology with matched SFP types on each side. The expansion was completed during a planned shutdown, and network monitoring showed no packet loss or latency change on the existing control traffic.
