The Woodward 9905-096 is an Automatic Generator Loading Control (AGLC) from Woodward’s AGLC product family. It is a self-contained analog control module that manages the controlled loading and unloading of an engine-generator set in a load-sharing or utility-paralleling system. Rather than acting as a governor or synchronizer, the Woodward 9905-096 sits between the load-sharing or load-sensing equipment and the speed control, supplying a speed-bias signal that causes the prime mover to pick up or shed load at a steady, adjustable rate.
The core operating principle is bumpless transfer. When the generator breaker closes, the Woodward 9905-096 does not apply full load instantaneously. Instead, it begins ramping from the unit’s existing load level, increasing output at the selected rate until the desired base load is reached. During operation it continuously tracks generator load. When an unload command is received, it ramps the unit back down to a preset trip level before the breaker opens, preventing reverse-power conditions and sudden load swings on the remaining bus.
Ramp time is adjustable from approximately 5 seconds to 5 minutes for a 100% load change, with load and unload rates set independently. Base load can be adjusted by an internal potentiometer or an external 10 kΩ potentiometer, while a separate maximum-load limit prevents the selected base load from exceeding the intended ceiling. An internal double-throw relay can open the breaker when the unload trip point is reached, and the trip level itself is adjustable internally or with an external 2 kΩ potentiometer.
