Product Overview
The Woodward IRI1-I5E05D is a high-performance microprocessor-based earth fault (ground fault) protection relay, designed to deliver highly sensitive ground fault detection and reliable protective tripping for industrial AC power systems. As a core member of the Woodward IRI relay protection family, the Woodward IRI1-I5E05D operates on the residual (zero-sequence) current principle, continuously monitoring leakage current through neutral grounding, busbars, generator star points, and transformer windings to identify even very low-level insulation breakdowns that conventional overcurrent devices cannot see. Its role is critical in preventing arc flash, equipment burnout, and uncontrolled earth faults in generators, transformers, motors, and switchgear.
Engineered around a fast digital signal processor, the Woodward IRI1-I5E05D applies Discrete Fourier Transform (DFFT) filtering to suppress harmonics, DC components, magnetizing inrush, and out-of-zone unbalanced currents, thereby avoiding false tripping during transient disturbances. The relay conforms to ANSI device functions 50N/51N and supports both definite-time and inverse definite minimum time (IDMT / IEC 60255) characteristics, allowing it to coordinate correctly with upstream and downstream protective devices. With a 5 A nominal CT secondary input, a wide-range 230 V AC/DC auxiliary supply, and a configurable 0.05–5 A operating threshold, the unit adapts to solidly grounded, resistance-grounded, and high-resistance grounded networks alike.
The Woodward IRI1-I5E05D is built for demanding industrial service. Its compact withdrawable housing supports DIN rail, panel, door, and 19-inch rack mounting, while the front face carries an IP54-rated sealed operator interface with multi-colour LEDs for power, ready, fault type, trip, and alarm status. All settings are made locally through sealed DIP switches and internal jumpers—no software or commissioning laptop is required on site. This combination of laboratory-grade measurement accuracy, field-programmable flexibility, and rugged industrial construction makes the Woodward IRI1-I5E05D a dependable, long-service-life choice for critical earthing protection.
