The Yokogawa AFG10S is an Enhanced-type Field Control Unit (FCU) that forms the processing core of a Yokogawa Field Control Station (FCS) within a CENTUM VP distributed control system. It executes control computation for each function block and handles input/output communication with process and software I/O points. Classified as a V net and RIO type in the 19-inch rack-mountable form factor, the Yokogawa AFG10S is designed for systems that use Remote I/O nodes connected via the RIO bus rather than the later FIO node architecture.
The Enhanced designation means the AFG10S is equipped with 32 Mbyte of main memory—twice the capacity of the Standard-type AFS10S—giving it greater headroom for control application programs, sequence tables, and process data. The processor is a VR5432 running at 133 MHz. Main memory is protected against power failure by a battery backup that preserves data for a maximum of 72 hours, with a minimum recharge time of 48 hours. This combination of memory capacity and power-loss protection makes the unit suitable for control applications where program integrity and recovery after an outage are essential.
Physically, the Yokogawa AFG10S is built for installation in a standard 19-inch industrial rack using eight M5 screws. It communicates over a dual-redundant V net interface and supports a dual-redundant or single RIO bus, with a maximum of eight connectable nodes. Three power supply variants are available—100–120 V AC, 220–240 V AC, or 24 V DC—allowing the unit to be matched to existing plant power infrastructure. Its status is reported through two FCU failure contact output terminals (normally closed and common), rated at 30 V DC, 0.3 A maximum, which can be wired to annunciator or shutdown logic.
