Application Scenarios
In a mining concentrator’s slurry pump station, a 400kW motor operated under extreme conditions—high ambient temperatures, abrasive dust, and highly variable load from fluctuating slurry density. The existing bi-metallic overload relay frequently mis-operated: tripping during normal high-inertia starts when the load temporarily spiked, yet failing to respond quickly enough when true overload conditions developed, resulting in two stator winding burnouts within eighteen months.
The maintenance team installed a 269P-D/O-241-100P-HI in the MCC bucket. The relay continuously sampled phase currents through 5A CTs while accepting Pt100 RTD inputs embedded in the stator windings. Its thermal model calculated I²t loading from actual current, while the RTDs measured true winding temperature—the relay used whichever value was higher to update thermal capacity . When slurry density suddenly increased and load surged, the RTD temperature rise fed back into the thermal model immediately, triggering a pre-alarm before the winding approached critical temperature. After eighteen months of operation, zero thermal-related failures occurred, and nuisance trips dropped from approximately three per month to zero.
