Triconex 3004 Enhanced Main Processor Module for Tricon TMR Safety Systems

Description

The 3004​ is an Enhanced Main Processor Module from Triconex (Schneider Electric), the central processing element of the Tricon Triple Modular Redundant (TMR) safety system. It is the CPU of a Safety Instrumented System: the module that executes the shutdown and interlock logic, polls every I/O module in the rack, and decides when the plant goes to a safe state.

A Tricon node does not run one 3004​ — it runs three, seated in the main processor slots and operating as MP A, B and C in a triad. Each executes the same compiled TriStation application in lockstep on its own 32-bit processor, and every scan the three exchange their input and output tables over the proprietary TriBus and resolve any disagreement by 2-out-of-3 hardware voting. The “Enhanced” designation on the 3004​ reflects its dedicated sequence-of-events capability: onboard SRAM that timestamps and retains trip data so an incident can be reconstructed after the fact.
