Description
The 1769-IF4 is a 4-Channel Analog Current/Voltage Input Module manufactured by Allen-Bradley / Rockwell Automation for the CompactLogix 1769 platform (also compatible with MicroLogix 1500 expansion and 1769-ADN / 1769-AENTR adapter architectures). Converting any combination of four voltage (±10 V, 0-10 V, 0-5 V, 1-5 V) or current (0-20 mA, 4-20 mA) field signals through a delta-sigma A/D converter at 16-bit resolution, it delivers conditioned, scaled process data to the controller across the Compact I/O backplane — and because each channel is individually configurable and the module supports both single-ended and differential wiring, one catalog number covers the vast majority of low-density analog acquisition tasks in compact machine and process panels.
Application Scenarios
Consider an OEM building a fleet of 12 compact skid-mounted chemical dosing packages, each carrying two 4-20 mA pressure transmitters, one 0-10 V level sensor from an ultrasonic head, and one 4-20 mA flow signal from a magnetic flow tube. A full-size chassis-based I/O platform would consume three modules, a 4-slot chassis, and a dedicated power supply just to read four process variables — while the panel door was barely large enough for the controller itself. By selecting the 1769-IF4, the integrator collapses all four analog signals into a single 35 mm-wide module that clips directly onto the same DIN rail as the CompactLogix controller, reducing panel width, cabinet cost, and engineering time per skid — a meaningful saving multiplied across twelve units.
The module addresses four chronic pain points in compact analog acquisition: (1) the cost-per-point penalty of deploying high-density analog cards where only a handful of signals exist, (2) the engineering effort of converting raw A/D counts into engineering units in ladder logic, (3) the commissioning friction of wiring mixed voltage and current sensors to a single module, and (4) the noise sensitivity of low-level analog signals inside panels crowded with VFDs and contactors. Because the 1769-IF4 performs onboard scaling to engineering units, scaled-for-PID, percent, or raw/proportional formats, and carries selectable 50 / 60 / 250 / 500 Hz digital filters tuned to reject local power-line interference, the integrator’s ladder program receives clean, already-scaled values without manual conversion code.
