Product Overview
Allen-Bradley 5069-AENTR is a Compact 5000 I/O Slim EtherNet/IP Adapter manufactured by Rockwell Automation. As the communication gateway for a 5069 Compact I/O system, the 5069-AENTR facilitates high-speed data transfer between Logix5000 controllers and remotely located 5069 I/O modules over an EtherNet/IP network. The adapter serves as the head-end component of a distributed I/O slice, providing both system-side (MOD) power and field-side (SA) power to downstream modules while supporting up to 31 Compact I/O modules in a single system.
The “Slim” designation distinguishes the 5069-AENTR from the dual-port 5069-AEN2TR variant. While both adapters perform the same core communication and power distribution functions, the 5069-AENTR uses a single Ethernet interface and does not support the Secure Digital (SD) card feature found on the AEN2TR. This streamlined design makes the 5069-AENTR a cost-effective choice for linear or star-topology applications where device-level ring (DLR) redundancy and removable configuration storage are not required.
Compatibility is a critical consideration when specifying the 5069-AENTR. The adapter is designed for use with CompactLogix 5380 and 5480 controllers, as well as ControlLogix 5580 and GuardLogix 5580 controllers, but it is not compatible with older CompactLogix 5370 controllers. Configuration is performed through Studio 5000 Logix Designer, where the adapter is defined as the communication path to the remote I/O modules. The 5069-AENTR requires a terminal kit (5069-RTB5-SCREW or 5069-RTB5-SPRING) for power wiring, which must be ordered separately.

Main Features and Advantages
Slim Design with Essential Functionality: The 5069-AENTR strips away features that many distributed I/O applications do not require, delivering the core adapter functions—EtherNet/IP communication and power distribution—in a compact, cost-optimized package. For projects using linear network topologies or where the adapter is not expected to serve as a configuration backup point, the absence of SD card support and a second Ethernet port represents a sensible reduction in cost and complexity without compromising system capability.
High-Capacity Power Distribution: Despite its slim profile, the 5069-AENTR is engineered to supply substantial current to downstream I/O modules. The MOD power passthrough rating of 9.78 A and SA power passthrough of nearly 10 A allow the adapter to support fully loaded 5069 Compact I/O slices without requiring intermediate power boosters in most configurations. This capacity simplifies panel design and reduces the number of components mounted on the DIN rail.
Seamless Logix Integration: The 5069-AENTR is configured natively within Studio 5000 Logix Designer, appearing in the controller’s I/O tree as the parent node for all downstream Compact 5000 modules. Electronic keying is performed through the programming software, preventing inadvertent mismatches between the configured adapter and the physical hardware. This tight integration ensures that the 5069-AENTR benefits from the same diagnostic and configuration workflows as locally mounted I/O.
Robust Industrial Construction: The adapter is rated for operation from 0°C to +60°C, tolerates 5 G vibration at 10–500 Hz, and withstands 30 G operating shock. These ratings, combined with CISPR 11/22 Class A emissions compliance and 6 kV contact ESD immunity, make the 5069-AENTR suitable for installation in standard industrial enclosures on the plant floor.
