Allen-Bradley 1361-NO61-2-5 Open Chassis DC Drive — 1 to 5 HP Single-Phase Speed & Torque Control

Model Allen-Bradley 1361-NO61-2-5

Description

The Allen-Bradley 1361-NO61-2-5 is a single-phase, non-regenerative DC packaged drive from Rockwell Automation’s Bulletin 1361 family, designed to deliver controlled DC power for low- to medium-horsepower direct current motors. Built in an open chassis format, it converts incoming 120 VAC or 240 VAC single-phase power into regulated DC voltage and current, giving operators precise command over motor armature voltage, speed, and torque. The 1361-NO61-2-5 is especially well suited to maintaining and extending the service life of legacy machinery where a three-phase supply is unavailable but reliable DC motor control is still required.

Application Scenarios

A Midwest packaging machinery OEM was servicing a fleet of late-1990s labeling machines built around 3 HP shunt-wound DC spindle motors. The original drives had become erratic—speed would drift during long runs, and the OEM replacement had long since gone out of production. The maintenance team needed a drop-in replacement that would fit the existing panel cutout, accept the same 240 VAC single-phase supply, and preserve the original tachometer feedback wiring. They selected the 1361-NO61-2-5 because its open chassis footprint matched the original mounting pattern and its three selectable regulation modes allowed them to replicate the original tuning without rewiring the feedback loop. The swap was completed during a single weekend shutdown, and the labeling line returned to production with stable speed regulation and no further drift complaints.

In a second case, a small job-shop lathe with a 3 HP DC spindle was stalling under heavy roughing loads after its original drive failed. The electrician installed a 1361-NO61-2-5 in speed feedback mode using the existing DC tachogenerator. The drive’s 150% current limit for one minute handled the high breakaway torque of the spindle without tripping, while armature voltage feedback provided adequate regulation for the balance of the cut. The repair cost a fraction of converting the machine to an AC spindle system, keeping a productive asset in service for years longer.
